My mother is severely disabled. Starting 10 years ago, she began having issues with balance. One thing led to another and now she can barely speak properly. I've seen my father transform from a workoholic who was rarely there for us, to someone who has grown into a caring caregiver. He won't leave her, and won't leave us. It's not in his DNA to do it. My mom's condition is difficult for all of us. My wife and I want to leave and live on our own, but then my father would be alone to care for her. What makes it worse is that my parents aren't financially stable. We are progressing slowly and steadily with our lives - saving up for a home, going out on vacations when we can - as a family. From a mental health perspective having people around is best.

I’m a first generation Indian-American with brown skin, but that shouldn’t matter anyway. My politics are right smack in the middle.
