As I struggle to sift through the trove of articles, ideas, and news stories coming out of all of this and try to separate fact from fiction, exaggeration from truth, I’m starting to lean towards that idea that we do have laws in this country that disproportionately affect Black Americans then others and they were in fact designed for that purpose.
Where I get stuck is the opposing force of multitudes of black individuals who don’t necessarily reject this assumption, but do state that it is not at the top of their list of what needs to improve within the Black community.
Many state that Black on black crime is a far bigger problem in black communities. Is this a result of oppressive laws? I would like to know. Many are also tired of white liberals leading this discussion and essentially defining what is and isn’t racist.
I’ve also heard several Black Americans state that police brutality isn’t as big a problem as the media portrays it. Finally, there are many Black Americans who don’t want to defund the police, such as the creators of the I’m Telling, Don’t Shoot campaign - https://www.imtellingdontshoot.com/.
I’d like your opinion on individuals like Thomas Sowell. If, let’s say his arguments are wrong or he is lying, what would be his motivation to spread disinformation and hurt the Black Community?
I’d also like your take on the #WalkAway campaign. Are all those Black voices lying as well?
